If you are a DJ or just enjoy playing that role at parties than you know that there is more to it than just coming up with a playlist. Old school DJs had to lug around a ton of equipment but with all the latest technology, the most you will need is a good piece of software and a couple of controllers. PCDJ Red Mobile 2 is Red Mobile’s updated release of their DJ service product. It has all the features you want from interfacing with top of the line external devices to be able to read, play and write to most every audio format out there.
One of the features that excites everyone about the PCDJ Red Mobile 2 is its new ability for MP3+G karaoke playback and lyrics output. If you have done any commercial DJing you know that the money is in karaoke so this is a very important feature to have. Make sure you pay close attention to the recommended configuration requirements as the karaoke has to have this setup in order to work properly.
The minimum system requirements are fairly standard, but the recommended configuration can present a small downside. The basic requirements are a 2 GHz 2 core processor, 2 gigs of RAM, a dedicated video card with at least 256mb, a sound card that is Direct X or ASIO compatible and at least 40 MB free on the hard drive. That 40 mb on the hard drive is for running and processing, not just installation and files so you need to have that space available at all times. The ideal configuration includes 4 GIGs of Ram, 200 MB free on the hard drive, a 512mb dedicated video card and a multichannel sound card.
One of the great things about this program is that it can be set up on both the PC and MAC. You can run the program on any Intel CPU, on MAC you need Snow Leopard or better for it to work. The MAC Core Audio multichannel sound card is also perfect for the PCDJ Red Mobile 2.
Two Small Downsides
There are two aspects of PCDJ Red Mobile 2 that you may not like, but they both come down to matter of preference and commitment. The first one is that the program works best with a very specific type of soundcard. So specific that Red Mobile sells it right on their site. It is a DirectX/ASIO compatible multichannel soundcard that is dedicated (like the video card) to only processing sound.
This type of card is not the standard in portables and PCs so to get the most out of the program; you need to make an additional investment. If you don’t, the program can hang. The other issue will not disrupt the program but can be an inconvenience. It is designed to be compatible with a very limited set of external components. You can get other brands and models to work, but you will have to track down the correct patches on your own.
