After searching for days for a good video converter, I’ve finally found the solution. It’s called Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate. The name speaks for itself, it’s the Ultimate!
At first, I just started using their online converter – it’s free, no need for installation and it’s simple to use. But after my video projects’ file size started getting bigger, I need to get me a reliable software that not only converts videos but audio files as well. AND supports nearly all video and audio formats so I need not change converter software for every multimedia player I have.
Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate Software is pretty easy to navigate and understand the settings. What I like, especially, is the little thumbnail devices that go with the file format so that for beginners like me, all I need to look for is the little thumbnail that corresponds to my gadget!
One nifty feature I’ve been using is the Clip option. I can clip certain segments from a movie so I can compile them into one single file for my library of favorite quotes from movies.
Another great feature I’ve recently discovered is that I can actually shrink or expand my output file size with the Bit Rate Calculator. It’s a neat little feature that calculates the complicated parts for you.
There are more features like adding special effects, attaching subtitles or watermarks plus others. .

With the right hardware Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate is amazingly fast. I’m running the intel i7 2600K @ 4.5Ghz with a GTX460 Cuda enabled video card which this software takes full advantage of. It also uses all 8 threads of the 2600K. I converted a season of Friends from 300mb avi files to around the same size output for iphone. Job done in less than 10 minutes, I think it was 23 episodes in all, Wow. CPU Was at full load on each core as was the video card. Great software all round.
